queer contra DANCE x2 in OAKLAND on SATURDAY!

— admin @ 2:21 pm

What: Double-Header Benefit Queer Contra Dance When: Saturday, October 4; experienced dance 3:30-5:30, potluck 5:30-6:45, regular dance 7:00-10:00 Who: Dean Allemang calls with The Fiddlerats Where: Humanist Hall, 390 27th Street (btwn Telegraph & Broadway) in Oakland Map & Directions: http://www.humanisthall.net/DIRECTIONS.htm How much: $10 for one dance, $15 for both dances (or pay what you can)
Want a high-voltage jolt of musical anti-depressant? Here’s our prescription: spend this Saturday dancing to The Fiddlerats, a trio of talented twenty-somethings who are rising stars of California’s contra dance scene, with the ever-charming Dean Allemang as caller. And you’ll get an extra jolt of pleasure knowing that you’re aiding two of your fellow dancers: all proceeds from both dances will go towards defraying the costs of Mark’s kidney donation to Robert.
The day begins with an experienced dance from 3:30-5:30. If you’ve been to a few of our dances and feel comfortable with the basic moves, then consider yourself experienced!
Next, we’ll adjourn to the hall’s verdant backyard for a potluck dinner from 5:30-6:45. Entrees, desserts, beverages, bread and cheese…all edible contributions are welcome! We’ll provide the plates, utensils, napkins, and cups.
Finally, we’ll swing into the evening with our regular dance (everyone is welcome!) from 7:00-10:00.
Dance, food, music, community…join us on Saturday for a perfect storm of queer contra joy!

2 Queer Women Seeking a Two Bedroom Apartment in SF

— admin @ 8:00 am

Hello! My roommate and I are looking for a two bedroom unit in San Francisco. We are two queer women, ages 25 and 28. We are clean, quiet, responsible, respectful and pay rent on time. We consider our home our sanctuary, and are looking for a nice place to call home. We are flexible on neighborhood, and can move-in immediately. We are looking to pay $1200, but for the right unit we may have some more flexibility.
About Us: Jenn works as a Park Ranger for the East Bay Regional Park District and loves her job! In her spare time she writes, sews, rides horses, and works as an independent contractor doing grant writing and database management.
Nicolina works as a Sound Engineer, and co-owns an independent non-profit queer record label. In her spare time she likes to play music (not at home, in her record label’s studio!) and practice Portuguese.
Shelter (the dog) is a 38 pound Belgian Sheepdog mix. She measures 20 inches to the shoulders. She has been with Jenn since she was a puppy and is very well-trained and mellow. She doesn’t have any bad habits like lonely barking, scratching, digging, etc. Jenn keeps her very well exercised, and she bathes and brushes her regularly. Shelter is extremely bright, loving, and gets along well with other dogs, people, and children. She goes to work with Jenn two days a week. Shelter has excellent previous landlord references.
If we sound like a good fit for your unit, or if you know of anything available you can reach Jenn at 510-893-0536 or grngrrl@gmail.com
Thanks! -Jenn and Nicolina

East Bay easy hike on Tues. at 1

— admin @ 12:45 pm

Hi everyone,
A couple of us are going to hike in the East Bay on Tuesday at 1 if you want to join us.  This will be a relatively flat, easy, and relaxing hike, with time to look at wildlife and nature.  We’ll decide where (near the bay or further inland) closer to Tuesday, depending on the heat.

Newcomers Event SF Center

— admin @ 7:30 am

NEWCOMERS EVENT Wednesday, September 24, 2008 @ 7pm The San Francisco LGBT Community Center 1800 Market Street (at Octavia) www.sfcenter.org 415.865.5555 Are you a Newcomer to San Francisco?
Are you a woman who identifies as lesbian, gay, transgender, queer or bi? Are you over 40? Meeting new people — friends or lovers — does not seem to get any easier with age. Come to this no-stress event and try your luck. Center Women Present, The San Francisco LGBT Community Center’s new women’s programming initiative, invites women who have been in San Francisco for less than two years to come to The Center on Wednesday, September 24th at 7pm and meet one another. We are interested in providing this opportunity for Newcomers because of the strength that many of us draw on being in the women’s community. Moving to a new city can be a big adjustment and we’d like to help you start making connections. There will be a meet and greet followed by a discussion of where to go, what to do and a list of resources to take home with you. The event will close with a facilitated dialogue that explores, “What does our ideal women’s community look like?” We look forward to seeing you there and hearing about the excitement and challenges of being a Newcomer to San Francisco. We kindly ask for a $5-15 donation for our events, but no one is turned away for lack of funds!
Center Women Present is a queer women’s initiative started at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center, serving all self-identified women, including lesbians, queer, bisexual, and transgender community members. The program intends to address women’s community issues through volunteer-led projects and is shaped primarily by input of community members, with assistance of The Center’s staff.
