Hi everyone,
For those of you planning to attend a rally or any other action event this weekend, here is an important message sent out last week from Jay at the No on 8 Campaign:
[The] campaign’s research has shown that rallies, if not done correctly, can harm our chances. There are three things every rally organizer and attendee needs to know:
a) We cannot engage Yes on 8 supporters b) We cannot rally next to a Yes on 8 rally c) The campaign must be aware of any communications with the media
I’m sure you’ve already seen the unfortunate stories on the news about violence allegedly erupting between Yes on 8 and No on 8 supporters, and well-intentioned actions by our supporters that inadvertently give the opposition fodder to attack us.
We want you to be safe. We want you to be successful. We want to win.
So please, if you encounter any Yes on 8 supporters or are approached by any media at your rallies, please call our office at (408) 453-4592 as soon as possible.
Please keep up the good fight! With the help of supporters like you, we can WIN!

May the peace of God be with you!
As we near next Tuesday’s election, it is going to be a stressful time for many in our community. Here are a few thoughts that may help you prepare yourself spiritually as we approach the election.
Keep Your Spirits Up! Over the next few days, you are bound to hear and see a lot of ads from the “Yes on Eight” people. They will also be holding a major rally in Southern California on November 1, and that is bound to get them some media attention. Don’t let these negative messages get you down! The polls are very close, and we have a very good chance of defeating Proposition 8 on Tuesday. Keep your spirits up and do not compromise your beliefs or your integrity!
Put your Beliefs into Action! There are still many opportunities to volunteer for the “No on Eight” campaign. Talk with your friends, share your beliefs with them, and make sure they know how important it is for you to have Proposition 8 defeated. The No on Eight website (www.noon8.org) is filled with resources and opportunities to volunteer. It is going to be a very tight election, and you can make a significant difference by putting your faith into action now!
Be Ready for a Roller Coaster Ride on Tuesday! Elections officials are expecting a record turnout on Tuesday, and it will take some time to count all of the ballots. I encourage you not to get carried away by the ups, downs, and reversals that are bound to occur as the election results trickle in. Instead, I encourage you to know what you believe, keep yourself spiritually centered throughout the process, and act in such as way that you can be confident that you have done your best to tell your story. MCC San Jose¹s sanctuary will be open from 5:00pm to 9:00pm next Tuesday, November 4, for those who would like to gather for prayer on election night.
May God bless you and keep you as we go through the next few days together.
Sincerely,
Michael Patrick Ellard, Senior Pastor
