10/21 - Saving Marriage - mark your calendar, bring a date

— admin @ 1:15 pm

Tuesday, October 21 Reception and silent auction at 7:00, film at 8:00 The Del Mar Theatre, 1124 Pacific Avenue, Santa Cruz Reception and film $50, film $20 ($10 for students w/ID) Tickets available at: The Diversity Center, 1117 Soquel Ave., SC Santa Cruz County No on 8 campaign, Suite 250 in The Galleria, 740 Front St., SC http://www.SantaCru zNoOn8.org
On Tuesday, October 21, the Del Mar Theatre in Santa Cruz will be showing Saving Marriage, a new documentary about the fight for marriage in Massachusetts, being released nationally while we’re fighting the same fight here.
The Bay Area Reporter says, “Saving Marriage is a deft political suspense story that provides an inspiring portrait of a new generation for whom marriage becomes a surprising vehicle for empowerment and self-respect.” (Red the entire review: http://www.ebar. com/arts/art_article.php?sec=film&article=561)
The one-night-only showing is a benefit for No on 8/Equality for All, produced by local businessman Paul Farmer, and sponsored by Equality for All, The Diversity Center, Santa Cruz County No on 8, the Del Mar Theatre, and OfficeStar Computer Training Centers.
Says Farmer, “I saw this extraordinary film at the Cinema Diverse film festival in Palm Springs, and I wanted to bring it back home to my community.” With the support of Del Mar owner Jim Schwenterley, Farmer is doing just that.
Saving Marriage is preceded by a cocktail reception at 7:00, with a silent auction to benefit the Santa Cruz County No on 8 campaign; the film begins at 8:00.
This special showing of Saving Marriage will be just two weeks before the election which will determine whether LGBT couples retain the right to marry; it’s a wonderful way to remind ourselves of how important our equality is, and how tenuous, and that we don’t keep it without hard work and determination - in Massachusetts or in California.
Mark you calendar, find a date, join us at Saving Marriage.
