Dear Renee,

“You gotta give ‘em hope… You cannot live on hope alone, but without it, life is not worth living.” — Harvey Milk, a few months before his assassination in 1978
Unless we raise $3,000,000 in the next three days we will likely lose.
We cannot let them succeed. I know that if we have the resources to match them we can win. We cannot live on hope alone. We need you.
Exactly 30 years ago, Harvey Milk led the campaign that defeated California’s Proposition 6 — the Briggs Initiative, which would have barred LGBT people from teaching in California’s state schools.
Today, we need to do him proud. It’s now up to us to shape the next 30 years. Please, make a contribution now.
Do it for Harvey.

Yesterday, the other side reported donations of $2.2 million, dwarfing the $255,650 we reported, and called on their donors to contribute another $3 million.
With this enormous sum of money they are buying every available ad space on TV in California to blast even more of their hateful lies and prevent our messages from being seen.
Unless we raise $3 million in the next three days we will likely lose.
A campaign donor recently told me that their gift was five times more than they had ever given and suggested that everyone do the same. So today, I am increasing my donation to No On 8 to $50,000. I’m doing this because I know I must if we hope to win.
And I’m asking you to increase your gift too — at whatever amount you can, so that we can match the other side on the air. Please increase your gift today.
Last night the brilliant movie “Milk” premiered at the Castro Theater in San Francisco. The film is a poignant reminder of the ultimate sacrifice Harvey Milk made to advance our rights and how much Harvey, and so many others, gave to stop the Anita Bryant-led anti-gay movement that was sweeping the country and the Briggs Initiative — exactly 30 years ago.
It’s now up to us to shape the next 30 years.
Thanks to each of you who have sacrificed in this critical fight for our equality. Please join me in making another gift and asking everyone you know to do the same.
It is that important.
With respect, admiration and appreciation, Geoff Kors Executive Committee Member No On 8

fragrance free meditation group

— admin @ 1:18 pm

The group will meet on 2cnd and 4th Sundays of the month at 3:30-5:30 pm. Location is in the Bella Vista Neighborhood of Oakland. This is a peer- based group and is free of charge. It is intended to be a safe practice environment for people with chemical sensitivities. We are open to folks who are not chemically sensitive but you must be truly fragrance free. Right now we are focusing on Vipassana style meditation. For information on the location, to confirm times, get information about the format, and to get more information on how to be fragrance free, you can contact Evelyn at evelyn.kunkel@gmail.com or call Elizabeth at 510.595.4651.
Please note: This is a mixed group, however, I would love to get GLBTQ folks involved, as there are, I am sure, many chemically sensitive lesbians and queers out there, and you are my community too.

Calling all Sarahs, Todds, Bristols…Thurs, Oct 30 @ 5pm, Castro & Market

— admin @ 1:15 pm

For Immediate Release: October 29, 2008 Contact: Eve Moran/Sarah Palin Look-alike and organizer: (408) 329-2615 “QUE SARAH SARAH” Thursday, October 30 @ 5pm Corner of Castro and Market (under the large Rainbow flag) San Francisco An ad hoc group of Sarah Palin look-alikes has been taking San Francisco by storm, competing in The George Bush Going Away Party¹s recent Sarah Palin Look-alike Contest and appearing at cafes, on street corners, at a San Francisco Chronicle Sarah Palin photo shoot… Their next sighting, Que Sarah Sarah, will take place the day before Halloween, on Thursday, October 30 @ 5pm, at the corner of Castro and Market, under the large Rainbow flag, in San Francisco. The Palin clones will first gather for a group photo op (the largest gathering of Sarah Palins in history?) under the Rainbow flag and then in true Sarah style, they’ll ditch their staff and the press so they can fan through the city looking for Joe Six-Pack. The group is putting out a call for all Sarahs, Todds, Tracks, Bristols, Willows, Pipers, and Trigs to come to the corner of Castro and Market to help Sarah paint the town lipstick red. Organizer Eve Moran, who first dressed as Palin when the VP candidate recently came to campaign in Burlingame says: “The Real Sarah Palin did not come to San Francisco. She did not allow the press to film her appearance. She did charge $1200 for mimosas at The Hyatt in Burlingame. And then she flew away to troll for voters in the small towns and suburbs that she calls, ‘The Real America’.” Moran adds: “We think the Real America is wherever you find real Americans. This election is important, not for what divides us, but for what unites us. In honor of unity, we’re staging a very special photo op. Sarah wasn’t brave enough to come to the heart of the city, but we’re not afraid to do it for her.” What: Que Sarah Sarah When: Thursday, October 30 @ 5pm Where: Corner of Castro and Market, under the Rainbow flag, San Francisco Why: Why not?

Celtic Samhain Ritual:

— admin @ 8:28 am

Celtic Samhain Ritual:

A Celebration and Turning Inward

On Saturday, November 1st, we invite you to honor the Celtic Fire Festival of Samhain. We will celebrate the end of the Celtic harvest, and the fruits of our labors for this year. We will also reflect on the passing year, and those who have passed between the worlds.

This ritual is open to all who are honestly interested. You do not need to belong to any particular spiritual path or tradition in order to be welcome, and there are no spiritual paths or traditions whose members are unwelcome, as long as you are willing to be respectful to everyone attending. The ritual will follow a Celtic format, and there will be mention of Druids, Celtic Gods, honored ancestors, and the Sí (fairies).

Logistics:

The ritual will take place inside Impact Bay Area, 1724 Mandela Parkway #1, Oakland, CA. For directions, see www.impactbayarea.com or call 510-208-0480 before Saturday. Do not use Googlemaps.

The ritual will begin promptly at 5:30pm, and will last about one hour and 15 minutes. Please be on time - latecomers may make people uncomfortable or make it difficult to retain a ritual mindset. There is a suggested donation of $10 to help cover costs. For the ritual, you are invited to bring something to represent those who have passed on who you wish to honor, and divination aids (cards, runes, etc.) if you are comfortable with them. Children are welcome, but must be carefully attended.

Come experience the protection and transformation of the sacred Samhain fires!
About the presenter:

Caera is a singer, harper, teacher, and writer, who is very passionate about the music, languages, history, and spirituality of her Celtic ancestors. She plays a clairseach, a brass-strung harp modeled after medieval harps from Ireland, and sings in all three Gaelic languages (Irish, Scottish, and Manx) as well as other languages. She has been on the Official Ballot for the Grammy Awards and has won many other awards and honors with her music. She also writes original songs in the Irish language.

After a mystic experience at age 16, she began seeking pre-Christian Celtic religions. Her search has led to over 10 years of studies in early Celtic history, languages, poetry, and spirituality. Having relocated from the east coast relatively recently, this will be her first public ritual in the bay area.
