Free Screenings for the Community

Frameline at The Center: Free Screenings for the Community
presents
“Desi’s Looking for A New Girl”
Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 7:30pm
San Francisco LGBT Community Center 1800 Market Street @ Octavia Please arrive early as seating is limited! Screening followed by Q&A discussion.
Co-presented by: Amor Sin Fronteras & Queer Latin@ Artists Collective.
The fifth season of Frameline at the Center opens with a festival favorite “Desi’s Looking for A New Girl” (Frameline24; 1998 Frameline Film & Video Completion Fund Recipient). Desi del Valle (Costa Brava) stars in this touching, realistic comedy set in the familiar sights and sounds of San Francisco’s Latino and Queer cultures.
J.T., a young Latina dyke, has three passions: her skateboard, comedienne Marga Gomez, and her friend Desi (not necessarily in that order). When Desi’s girlfriend dumps her for a younger woman, she journeys down breakup road with the requisite mourning and attempts at dating and recovery. Desi’s family and friends help and interfere every step of the way, setting her up on an array of blind disasters…dates… with the “perfect new girl.”
This debut feature from Mary Guzmán (Mind If I Call You Sir?) is an enjoyable and upbeat look at relationships, from friendly to familial - and everything in between. A fun, intelligent, and sometimes painfully true to life story, we get to tag along the emotional roller coaster of the dating world. As a brilliant diva once warned - hold on tight, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
Kindly arrive early as seating is limited. Don’t miss this FREE screening of this fantastic film and post-screening panel!
With generous support from Folsom Street Events, Frameline proudly presents admission-free screenings at the San Francisco Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center at 7:30pm on the second Thursday of every month throughout 2009.
Please join us for the fourth season of Frameline at The Center, a provocative series of films and discussions focusing on social issues of particular relevance to the LGBT community. For more info please visit: <http://www.frameline.org >

Support our LGBTQ Senior Community on Feb. 3rd

— admin @ 6:00 pm

Fountaingrove Lodge, California’s first LGBTQ Senior Community, needs your help! Please mark your calendar to attend this meeting in support of its construction, which has been stagnated by opposing neighbors.

February 3, 2008
3:30PM
Santa Rosa City Council Meeting
90 Santa Rosa Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA

More information: www.fountaingrovelodge.com , 707.576.1101

At risk: The first licensed LGBTQ senior care community in California.
The issue: The homeowners’ association in this high-priced area of Santa Rosa doesn’t want this type of development.

Make them hear us. Stop the delays! Help show the City Council that further delay is unconscionable and without justification.

Support group forming for lesbians living in the East Bay & dealing w/hands-on care for a loved one with dementia.

A meet-and-greet gathering for this next Saturday, Jan. 3 @10 am at a public cafe in the Rockridge area of Oakland.
Duration: 2 hours Location: contact me directly (off list) Time: 10 am to noon Cost: pay for whatever you eat/order on your own
It seems that even a one-time meet is helpful to those who come together to share their stories, but we’re looking to build a solid support system by our regular meetings.

Got a Bad Christmas Gift? Go “Shopping!” and Do Some Good For the AIDS Healthcare Foundation

— admin @ 11:00 am

SF Sappho Members!
Got a Bad Christmas Gift? Go “Shopping!” and Do Some Good For the AIDS Healthcare Foundation
What do you do with that sequined reindeer sweater from Aunt Martha? How about that 3 foot pooper scooper from your neighbor? You got a crappy Christmas gift? Get some good out of the bad!
Shopping! The Musical’s annual “Bad Christmas Gift Swap” happens this Saturday, January 3rd at SF’s Shelton Theatre. Bring that awful thing and swap it for a $10 ticket to that night’s 8 PM show. And….even better…your gift is donated to Bay Area “Out of the Closet” thrift stores which benefit the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
Bring that bad (or even good!) gift to the Shelton Theatre - 533 Sutter Street at Powell in SF’s Union Square. The “Shopping!” box office opens at 7 PM. Tickets subject to availability. And hey…there’s cheap beer and wine before the show. Woo Hoo!
No bad gifts? Then stop by starting at 7 PM and see the collection of holiday horrors. Your holiday isn’t complete until you can laugh at other people’s misfortune. We’re not kidding about that pooper scooper.
Now in its third hit year, “Shopping! The Musical” is currently SF’s longest running originally composed musical. This only in SF show features comedy songs and sketches about stores, customers, those “oh-so-helpful” sales people and more. Winner of the prestigious Bay Area Theatre Critic’s Circle award.
