Sunday, May 3, 10:00-2:00 PT LOBOS SEAL PUP HIKE Rating: 1A1
This is the time of year to catch the Harbor Seal pups playing in the waves along the shores of Pt Lobos State Reserve located in Monterey. We’ll start our hike at Piney Woods and follow the coast North past the information station. From there we’ll follow the North shore trail to Whaler’s Cove. This trail winds through shrub and forested areas along the coast offering frequent and spectacular views of the rugged coastline. Overlooks of small, protected beaches offer excellent opportunities for viewing sea mammals, including the chance to see the young Harbor Seal pups. After reaching Whaler’s cove we’ll return along the same trail back to the information station. Then we’ll take the short ¼ mile Sea Lion Point Trail loop and follow it back to our starting point by exploring the tide pools along this stretch. Afterwards we’ll enjoy lunch at the picnic area back where we started. This hike is 4 miles with some rock scrambling along tide pool area. Hike and picnic is from 10:00 to 2:00 not including travel time. For more info on the park, go to http://pt-lobos.parks.state.ca.us/
Bring: Wind proof jacket and layers of clothing, sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen, water, snacks, lunch (you don’t have to take lunch on the hike), optional: camera, binoculars

This Thursday will make history in the San Jose gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community with two exciting events on one day.
Dining Out for Life
Cleve Jones speaks in San Jose on the past, present and future of the gay rights movement.
Dining Out For Life
Eat at a participating restaurant near you on April 30 to help the local HIV/AIDS community.
For the first time Dining Out for Life, an international event to raise money for local HIV/AIDS services, will occur in San Jose and 52 cities in North America including San Francisco and Oakland. On April 30th, eat at participating restaurants and about 20 percent of your check will fund critical services for the HIV/AIDS. The Health Trust, a San Jose-based foundation that offers a variety of services to HIV/AIDS patients, is sponsoring the event. Once a patient ends up in the care of the Health Trust, they have likely hit bottom. And government cutbacks are making it financially difficult for the Health Trust to continue delivering the high demand for services such as food, housing and emergency cash.
Go out to eat on Thursday at a participating restaurant to help your community. Representatives will be there to welcome you. Find a participating restaurant near you at www.healthtrust.org/dining.
Cleve Jones speaks in San Jose
The well known gay civil rights activist will discuss the past, current and future journey toward equality. After dinner at a participating Dining Out For Life restaurant, drive over to the Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center for an inspiring evening with Cleve Jones. He as been a big part of the gay rights struggle for equality over the years, starting with helping Harvey Milk become the first openly gay person to be elected to public office. Once the AIDS crisis hit San Francisco in the early 1980s, Jones was there to provide support and action during a devastating time for the community. He helped found the AIDS Quilt, a project that touched millions of Americans and created vast awareness of the personal stories of those who died from the disease.
Jones will speak at 8 pm in the DeFrank ballroom, 938 The Alameda, San Jose. The event is free, but a donation to help the DeFrank would be appreciated. The event is sponsored by OutNow Magazine, Unite Here!, Pride at Work and the DeFrank.

This past summer Cuba endured a series of devastating hurricanes which destroyed crops, buildings and infrastructures. This event is a fundraiser to help them re-build, especially the women of the village of Boca de Yumuri.
There will be great music by dyke performers, and lots of education about what’s going on in Cuba, and how you can support.
Please spread the word and come out, have a great time while supporting a great cause! Thanks! ~Lenn
