— admin @ 9:45 am

Please join us for “All Out for the Count” on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 6:00 PM. We will start and end at the Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center. Refreshments will be provided. This is a FREE event paid for with funds from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. Participants will need to buy their own beverages at the bars and coffee shops. We will hit coffee shops on The Alameda and Willow Glen, then head downtown to the bars. Transportation will be provided, so an RSVP is essential. Our purpose is to spread the word about the Census, and have a great time doing it! The Census forms will be sent to all homes this week and we want to encourage LGBT People to fill out the forms and send them back. Census workers will also be available to answer questions about how to fill out the questionnaire so that same sex couples and Transgender individuals are counted. This is an outreach event - training will be provided. Please RSVP at our Facebook Event page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=362530681956 Attached please find a flyer for LGBT Census Events in the coming weeks. I have made several great friends from these gatherings. You can too! So come on down!

April 9th SF Bay Area

— admin @ 12:00 pm

Hi. We want to invite all to: (short version: see below)
Five Years of Cancer Prevention for Women Around the Globe

PINCC - Prevention International: No Cervical Cancer - will be celebrating 5 years of successful work in Latin America, Africa and India with a grand birthday party on April 9, 2010, from 6.30 to 9 pm, in beautiful Grace Cathedral’s Gresham Hall, 1100 California Street, San Francisco.

PINCC was formed to deal with the terrible problem of women dying from cervical cancer. This disease, uncommon in the USA, is totally preventable, yet it kills 300,000 women a year, worldwide. It is the #1 cancer killer of women in developing countries. Using proven, low cost, single visit technology, developed by WHO, pre-cancers are identified and removed saving the women from later developing the cancer. Even more important, PINCC’s main focus is training local medical personnel in diagnosis and treatment. We return to each site every site every 6 months until the staff are completely trained, then leave them with equipment so they may continue on their own. PINCC has worked at 25 sites in 8 countries, training hundreds of doctors and nurses as well as screening and treating over 6,000 women.

Celebrating this fifth birthday with cake and candles, delicious food, wine, and other beverages, we will be delighted with the voice of Melanie DeMore, and view the premiere of a new film by Emiko Omori, documenting a PINCC trip to Africa. Kamala Harris, SF District Attorney will be a guest speaker. There will be a silent auction featuring art, jewelry and crafts from PINCC trip locations around the globe, a sailboat trip on the Bay, and best of all, a time-share in a holiday cottage in Provence, France. This is an evening not to be missed!

Suggested donation is $50 - $20 sliding scale. For more information, check our website, www.pincc.org, or contact PINCC at 510-452-2542, or email gwen6pincc@yahoo.com.
