From the President… Many of you may be wondering how we are doing at the DeFrank. The following is a bit of an explanation to get you up to speed. To summarize, there is good news and bad news. The good news is that we are currently bringing in more money than we are spending. Thanks to ongoing support from individuals and partnering organizations in our community, we are getting by. We would like to do more. Right now, our facility is being kept open due to the generosity of community members and our programs are being sustained by some government funding. We would like to see the community do more. We would like the Youth, Senior and HIV/AIDS programs to be sustained and supported by our LGBT Community members and our allies. We would like to break our dependence on the tides of politics and government budgeting. If every LGBT person and/or ally could give just a small amount of money over a long period of time, then our community center would most appropriately represent the community it serves. Please consider becoming a member today [see next article]. If you are already a member, now may be the time to consider renewing at a higher rate. Either way, please know that the Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center cannot survive without your generous support and we are sincerely grateful for whatever you can do. Christopher Flood President - Board of Directors This is the first in a series of articles that will provide high-level updates regarding the health of the Center and the status of our in-house programs and services.

2010 Membership Campaign in Full Swing By now you have probably received an email or posted letter regarding 2010 Membership. Although we always encourage you to donate what you can, Individual Membership is only $35. Please follow the two simple steps to make this campaign a success: 1. Donate via the website (or by sending us a check along with a completed membership form) 2. Update our records by emailing us your name, address, phone numbers and email address if they are out of date

New Mission and Vision Statements The Board of Directors recently approved our new mission and vision statements. This is an exciting time for the Center! We will be working hard to meet the new goals and standards that we have set for ourselves. Mission: Through collaboration and unity, the Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center strives to provide a diverse platform for our community to meet, learn, be challenged and grow. Vision: The Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center strives to be the community’s premier resource hub and a recognized leader in promoting health, strength, diversity and inclusiveness.

Gay Bingo - Join The Fun Every Wednesday night, come and join us for Gay Bingo! Early bird games start at 6:30 PM. Regular games begin at 7:00 PM and end at by 9:00 PM.
There are cash prizes, with all proceeds going to the DeFrank Center. The regular games buy-in is $15 with additional game packs available. Make sure to check the events calendar at www.defrankcenter.org for any weekly schedule changes.
Parking can be tricky on Wednesday nights. In addition to the DeFrank Center parking lot, there is public parking on Morrison Street behind the Chipotle parking lot and on the corner of Alameda and Race (next to the Flamingo Motel).

Senior Nutrition Program Launch The Senior Nutrition Program launch was a success, with great attendance at the kick-off lunch. Our new program offers reduced price lunches for persons over the age of 60 for a suggested donation of $2.50 per meal and $4.51 per meal for those that are younger. In order to participate, please sign up in advance by sending an email request to vintage@defrank.org.
