GENERAL SUMMARY
The TSP and Stonewall Project Health Educator will work 50% time on projects specific to TSP and 50% time on projects specific to [LINK: http://tweaker.org/] Tweaker.org. TSP responsibilities will include assisting in the design and implementation of outreach and health education activities and the recruitment, training and management of Peer Educators who provide outreach services to gay men and other MSM who use methamphetamine. The incumbent will advise and support the publication and distribution of health education materials, especially Speedometer, a harm reduction publication by and for gay/bi meth users. Health Educator will also manage content and design of TSP website. Stonewall responsibilities will include the weekly facilitation or co-facilitation of HIV prevention peer educator groups for training, education and production of print and online HIV prevention materials for a harm reduction program providing integrated substance use treatment, mental health services, HIV counseling and education for gay men and other MSM who use methamphetamine. The incumbent will work with colleagues and other stakeholders from the community to identify and recruit men to participate in the program; provide individual guidance and support over the phone, via e-mail, and in person to all peer educators; track peer educator participation and other activities to enhance overall maintenance and improvement of service to all clients.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
. Recruit, supervise, provide guidance and support to peer educators both as a group and on an individual basis . Conduct online and in person outreach and health education . Coordinate the development of harm reduction outreach materials in English and Spanish . Maintain sufficient inventory of HIV prevention and other outreach materials, including condoms, lube and other print media . Coordinate the development of large and small social marketing campaigns . Coordinate distribution of campaign materials and other materials (mailings, community outreach, acquisition of advertising space) . Coordinate the development of large venue based events and outreach activities to raise awareness about methamphetamine . Oversee the websites and coordinates website updates . Remain current with internet porn sites, sex clubs and other venues utilized by target populations. . Refer clients to appropriate services and assists clients with accessing those services. Assists with tracking referrals. . Conduct interviews with Key Opinion Leaders, Health Care Providers and members of target community to solicit information for Role Model Stories or articles for Speedometer publication. . Maintain and analyze evaluation data for the Program . Coordinate and facilitate trainings with other local agencies as well as within our own . Maintain abreast of advances in research and legislation, as well as other HIV/substance abuse prevention efforts locally, nationally and internationally. . Develop and manage collaborative efforts with other agencies and task-specific community advisory boards . Assist in writing contract monitoring reports. . Accurate and Timely Documentation & Record Keeping . Participate in Quality Assurance . Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Excellent computer skills, with some proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite 2. Ability to independently prioritize and implement multiple tasks 3. Ability to develop various systems and implementation strategies 4. Ability to develop short and long term program objectives 5. Excellent communications skills. 6. Excellent facilitation skills for groups and trainings 7. Ability to maintain confidentiality. 8. Ability to communicate with employees and other agency contacts in a courteous and professional manner. 9. Ability to maintain multiple schedules. 10. Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, working some late nights and weekends. 11. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures. 12. Knowledge of written communication formats, business English, and composition. 13. Ability to develop and present various reports (oral and written). 14. Ability to use considerable judgment and initiative in course of executing responsibilities. 15. Ability to make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures. 16. Ability to work comfortably with diverse populations, with sensitivity to issues concerning HIV and all disabilities. 17. Ability to work nights and weekends. 18. Ability to perform routine bending/stooping while filing. 19. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds 20. Ability to perform routine twisting/reaching while working at computer/desk. 21. Ability to perform routine walking/standing during course of day. 22. Ability to hear and speak well enough to converse over telephone 100% of the time. 23. Ability to see well enough to use computer efficiently and read computer reports and correspondence 100% of the time.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
. Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health or similar field or equivalent education and experience . Bilingual and Bicultural in Spanish preferred . Familiarity with substance use (specifically methamphetamine) , mental health, and HIV issues . Experience with outreach in all its forms . Experience with HIV risk reduction and substance abuse harm reduction . Experience with gay male community . Experience with Latino gay community
