Music as Divine Communion (East-West)

— admin @ 3:30 pm

Dear Souls,
There are many ways to experience a personal connection to the divine. For many of us, music and chanting/singing is yet another way to access our own deep spiritual essence. At the same time, there is a shared intimacy and sense of the sacred in being present to the divine while in the company of others. I am recommending 2 events, from both the east and west spiritual traditions, which offer this type of spiritual enrichment. (And hey, they are both free!)
Please consider joining me for an evening of Kirtan, devotional chanting, at the Center for Spiritual Enlightenment (CSE) this Friday, Oct 10th. Simply RSVP to jolynnotto@yahoo.com. You may also check out the CSE website in the below description.
Gitanjali: An Evening of Kirtan Friday, October 10, 7-9 pm Center for Spiritual Enlightenment @ www.csecenter.org
“Singing the names of God purifies the heart and mind, frees us from restless thoughts and prepares us for God communion. Devotional chants led by the kirtan band Gitanjali supports participants in an unforgettable experience of the soul’s joy. All are welcome; chant words provided.”

Keeping a steady mind in rocky times

— admin @ 1:18 pm

How to Meditate (HTM): This class covers everything you need to know to start a solid practice in meditation. *Note: This class will soon require a fee, so this may be the last time its offered free of charge.
When: Oct. 13, 2008 Time: 7:00pm Where: 938 The Alameda, San Jose, 95126 (DeFrank LGBT Community Center)
Rhymes for the Times by Jnana ;)
Beyond choppy waters, life’s turbulent tides, and the WILD STOCK MARKET ride, there exists a sea of tranquility.
Come, unfurl your sail, catch the winds of grace. Net the inner silence, anchor into stillness.
And so we meditate, our little zafu boats seeking the diamond lake. Staying afloat, holding steady, amidst misfortune and worry’s wake. With prayer beads, breath and bells, we navigate.
Soul Support is a program of the DeFrank LGBT Community Center. Meditation classes are provided by the Center for Spiritual Enlightenment. For more information, you may contact program coordinator, Jo-Lynn Otto, jolynnotto@yahoo.com.
