World AIDS Day San Jose

— admin @ 11:14 am

On Monday December 1st 2008, World AIDS Day marks its 20th anniversary. 1989 was a very different time for those living with HIV and AIDS; Today, the issue is learning to live with this disease and not prepare to die. Part of that is feeling the acceptance of the community in which we live. This one day event, originally designed to bring about community awareness of the disease and to celebrate those lost to it, now has the added component of showing support for those living with HIV every day. It is time to hold those in leadership to the promises of the past.
Please join us at 6:30 PM in the San Jose City Hall Rotunda and show that this community has not forgotten the ravages of AIDS.
Interfaith Gathering to follow: 8 PM at First Christian Church on 5th Street behind City Hall.
For more info email wadsj@aidscoalition.org

Rally-Teachers, Families & Supporters

— admin @ 10:45 am

Are you planning to join the national rally in San Jose against the passing of Prop 8 on Saturday?
If so, I am looking for people to join the marching team from St. James park to City Hall. This team — dubbed “Team A” — is comprised of supporters of No on 8 with a special emphasis on teachers, educators, families, kids, parents, etc. However, we pretty much all come from family, so this should not be considered exclusive.
Team A is meeting at 9:45am at the corner of St. James and S 3rd street, and expects to begin marching to City Hall sometime between 10a and 10:15a, with the goal of arriving there by 10:30am. We will be one of the 4 contingents converging simultaneously in a show of unity from all 4 directions.
Please contact me to let me know if you will be joining this group so I can keep you posted. I have attached a map of the marching locations. The marching routes will be provided to the team leaders prior to march.
In CommUnity Spirit, Jnana (Jo-Lynn) Team Leader A

Golfland - Big Funder of Prop 8

— admin @ 9:00 pm

Attention miniature golf fans. The family owners/management of Golfland Entertainment Centers were BIG donors to the “Yes on H8”. They contributed over $35,000 to take rights away from gays, lesbians and their families. The database of Prop. 8 contributions (http://www.sfgate.com/webdb/prop8/) list the following: - Robert Kenney, Sunnyvale, CA, Golfland Entertainment, Vice President, $5,000 - Ms Louise Kenney, Sunnyvale, CA, retired, $5,060 - Daniel Kenney, Campbell, CA, Manager Golfland Entertainment, $300 - Jason Kenney, Sunnyvale, CA, Manager Golfland Entertainment, $99
By doing internet searching I discovered that Fred Kenney of Granite Bay, Calif., is listed as the company’s president and chief executive. Interestingly, Cynthia Kenney, a homemaker, lives at the same address as Fred Kenney in Granite Bay. She gave a total of $25,100 to pass Prop. 8.
There are 9 Golfland Entertainment Centers throughout California and Arizona.
