4/17/09 queer On Their Feet Comedy and Improv show in Palo Alto

— admin @ 8:00 pm

Hey Everyone!
Jennie McNulty and Queer On Their Feet are performing in the Bay Area for 3 shows! :-) Catch Queer On Their Feet - An Evening of Stand Up Comedy and Improv in Santa Cruz 4/16/09, Palo Alto on April 17, 2009, and in Berkeley on 4/19/09. The show is a hilarious night of comedy and improv whether you are straight, gay or undecided!
Don’t let the venues fool you! This is not a religious show, the church is generously providing the venue for the show. Queer On Their Feet features Jennie McNulty, Daniel Leary, and Diana Yanez. Queer On Their Feet is a refreshing and hilarious show that has each comic doing about 15 minutes of fabulous stand up and then that is followed by the 3 together onstage playing improv games with suggestions from the audience. Every show is unique, fun, and totally hysterical.
The comedians have been on HBO, Comedy Central, Last Comic Standing, LOGO, MTV Networks, NBC, Etc. Our friends saw this in Asheville and laughed so hard they left hurting. Thursday April 16, 2009 7:30 PM Don Quixote

What the Bible Really Says about Homosexuality

— admin @ 2:00 pm

MOVIE NIGHT: WHAT THE BIBLE REALLY SAYS ABOUT HOMOSEXUALITY WHAT: “For the Bible Tells Me So” WHEN: March 27th, Friday, 7 PM WHERE: Center for Spiritual Living 1195 Clark Street San Jose, CA 95125 408-294-1828 A special award winning documentary entitled “For The Bible Tells Me So” helps reconcile homosexuality and Biblical scripture - and reveals that religious anit-gay bias is based almost solely upon a misinterpretation of the Bible. Through the experience of five very normal Christian, American families - including those of former House Majority Leader Richard Gephart and Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson - we discover how people of faith handle the realization of having a gay child or family member. It touches the heart.
Appropriate for the whole family.
Contact joanne@marriageequalitysiliconvalley.org for more information - Free.
There will be a Q & A/discussion open to all for about 1/2 hour after the movie.

When: Monday, March 23, 2009 @ 7 - 9 pm Cost: Free will offering Where: DeFrank LGBT Community Center, 938 The Alameda, San Jose, Ca

The presentation will include a 20 minute video, and group discussion exploring the organization’s LGBT activist strategy. To top it off, we will close with live, soulful saxophone playing by our very own Chuck Witschorik.
Soulforce is a national social justice and civil rights organization that resists the religious and political oppression of LGBT people through creative forms of nonviolent, direct action. Soulforce is based on the principles of nonviolent resistance as taught and practiced by Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr.

Prayers for Unity & Prosperity

— admin @ 6:45 pm

Clearing the air with meditation, chanting, and prayer!
Tuesday, March 24th, 5:00 to 6:45 pm Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center 938 The Alameda, San Jose, Ca
Since the Center has been going through a rough time, both financially and in its recent transition of leadership, please support our LGBT community center through interfaith prayer. Let us raise the level of consciousness at the Center, and call forth our highest vision. One that holds our Community Center in the light of wisdom, unity, peace and prosperity.
Collectively, our spiritual condition will impact the health of an organization. This includes the capacity for fundraising, and ultimately the organization’s viability. The DeFrank Center’s next board meeting is especially important because the membership will elect new board members. For this reason too, it would be good to pray for the wisdom of our future leadership.
The DeFrank board meeting will take place on March 24th at 7pm. The Center has already scheduled time for us to gather in the community room prior to the meeting, between 5:00 to 6:45 pm. You can stop by anytime within that time frame, or until the meeting starts. I suggest chanting for the early birds, and silent meditation/prayer towards the latter half of our gathering.
All true leaders know the power and influence of manifesting from their inner vision. So, please consider joining us, even if just briefly. Stand firm in your presence, above the contentious fray, and hold up your highest vision for the Center. Let us set an example, and permeate the environment with the peace of meditation.
In commUnity Spirit, Jnana Soul Support Coordinator *RSVP’s always appreciated*
