March Forth on March 4th

— admin @ 5:00 pm

March 4th is a verb! Please Join Us to take silent non-violent action! Marriage Equality Silicon Valley will be holding a candlelight vigil that evening in advance of the California Supreme Court’s oral arguments which will take place the next day on Prop. 8. The event will be occur regardless of the weather.
We invite you to bring a few friends and some candles to participate in a silent vigil for our civil rights, which were stripped from us in last November’s election. There will be no speeches, no anger, no rallying cries - just a whole lot of people illuminated by candlelight, letting the South Bay know that we are still waiting for equal treatment under the law. Signs are welcome, especially those reinforcing positive messages of love and of our families.
The vigil will take place Wednesday March 4, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, at the intersection of Winchester Boulevard and Stevens Creek Boulevard, at Santana Row and Valley Fair shopping centers. Join us with others who are doing similar demonstrations all across the state for in solidarity with our brothers and sisters.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Anne Hansen, Board President 408-248-8644, annehansen@realtor.com Paul Wysocki, Interim Executive Director 408-293-3040 ext. 103, paul@defrank.org Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center Hires Interim Executive Director (SAN JOSE, March 2, 2009) - The Board of Directors of the Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center (BDF) in San Jose announced that Paul Wysocki, a professional consultant to nonprofits and government agencies (who specializes in transitional management), has been hired as its new, interim Executive Director, effective Monday, March 2, 2009. Wysocki replaces Aejaie Sellers, the previous ED, whose employment ended on February 13, 2009. Anne Hansen, BDF Board President, said, “We’re extremely excited to have a person of Paul’s caliber to help us. His professional background is extensive, and he’s also got an impressive history in the local LGBT community.” AIDS Legal Services, Community Technology Alliance, Mountain View Community Services Agency, and the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County are among the agencies that Wysocki has helped as start-ups or transition to stabilize, grow and continue as successful ongoing nonprofits. Chris Flood, BDF Board Secretary, pointed out that the Center’s focus is to maintain current programs and services at full levels: “Our next Annual Membership Meeting is scheduled for March 24, when we’ll be electing Board Members, so we intend to make this transition period run smoothly.” Wysocki has been an active member of the South Bay’s LGBT community since 1970, when he was president of the San Jose Gay Liberation Front. He’s worked on political campaigns over the years, including California Prop 6 in 1978 and the Larouche and Dannemeier AIDS initiatives in the ’80’s. It was the devastating defeat in the local anti-gay Measures A and B campaign in 1980 that led to the creation to the DeFrank Center in 1981. He joined BAYMEC in the late ’80’s, ran for San Jose City Council as an openly gay candidate in 1990, was a founding Board member of the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission, and served on the San Jose Civil Service Commission, the Police and Fire Retirement System Board of Trustees, the Santa Clara County Human Relations Commission and the United Way Board of Directors. The BDF Board has been devoting a great deal of time to overseeing day-to-day operations, and Hansen said that “having someone at the Center to serve our membership and other stakeholders is a welcome prospect as we move toward future opportunities and growth. We look forward to an exciting year.” ###

“The most effective way to rely on our inner resources during times of change is to cultivate our ability to be still and attend to the divine presence within. The spiritual inspiration and nourishment we receive in the temple of silence strengthens us, helps us stay balanced and connected to the greater vision of our life’s purpose, and releases the creative activity of imagination.” ~ Rev.
