Introduction to Soulforce
Join us for an evening of “sax, lies and videotape!”
When: Monday, March 23, 2009 @ 7 - 9 pm Cost: Free will offering Where: DeFrank LGBT Community Center, 938 The Alameda, San Jose, Ca
Due to the strong turnout and high level of interest generated last month by Mel White’s book “Religion Gone Bad,” we are following up this month with a broader overview of the work done by the national organization, Soulforce. Soulforce is a watchdog organization that monitors and confronts religious groups that spread falsehood and anti-LGBT rhetoric. The presentation will include a 20 minute video, and group discussion exploring the organization’s LGBT activist strategy. To top it off, we will close with live, soulful saxophone playing by our very own Chuck Witschorik.
Soulforce is a national social justice and civil rights organization that resists the religious and political oppression of LGBT people through creative forms of nonviolent, direct action. Soulforce is based on the principles of nonviolent resistance as taught and practiced by Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr.
