The NEW Monterey County LGBT Community Centers!

— admin @ 2:30 pm

We are thrilled to announce that the Monterey County LGBT Community Centers is official and on its way to opening doors to these new Centers soon!
As most of you know by now, we have been having open, public meetings every other week now for the past couple of months. We have been alternating between my office in Monterey and The Quadrangle in Salinas. We have been striving toward opening up a LGBT Community Center, with two locations - one in Monterey and one in Salinas, hopefully by the end of this calendar year. Our goal is to have a public place that is safe and friendly, one that serves the vast majority of the LGBT Communities and those involved with them, in Monterey County by offering a friendly place to hang out, meet others in the community, get resources, attend support groups, provide education to the public about LGBT issues and have social events. We are particularly interested in creating space that is safe and welcoming to our youth.
By way of dedicated effort by many people in our Communities, and advise and support from Jim Brown, the ED of The Santa Cruz Diversity Center, we are thrilled to announce that, as of last night, we now have an official name, the Monterey County LGBT Community Centers, ratified By-Laws and an elected Board of Directors! We also have hard working committees seeking funding, locations, volunteers and everything else we might need to open our doors. Congratulations to all those who have accepted the opportunity to serve!
Friends, this long-time dream is becoming a reality! Yes, we WILL have a viable Monterey County LGBT Community Centers! And we will be serving all! And you are all welcome to attend our meetings, join our list-serv and volunteer your efforts.
So, how may you assist in the efforts to open the doors to our new Monterey County LGBT Community Centers? Ah, there are many ways! Do, please, consider joining our meetings. Do, please consider helping us find locations for our Centers. Do, please, consider helping with fundraising and grant writing. Do, please, consider coming out to help renovate the sites we find. Do, please, consider donating furniture, office equipment, comfort items (coffee maker, microwave, DVD player, etc.). do, please, consider donating art/decorations. Do, please, consider volunteering staffing time when we are open. And, most important, do, please, consider taking advantage of the services the Centers will provide to the Communities. Remember, this is not my Center, not your Center, it is for ALL OF US! So, do, please, consider helping in the effort and, by doing so, taking ownership for yourself as part of OUR CENTERS!
If you would like more information, see our Minutes and/or By-Laws, meet our Board of Directors to and/or get involved, please contact me via the information below. Know that you will be warmly welcomed!
All my appreciation!
